Type of Objects Managed

The system can manage physical documents (paper drawings, film, diskettes), part data (related to inventory), and electronic design files.

Physical documents are managed using an "index card" model, where a master and one or more variation records are created. Users can assign any number of media types and/or storage locations to each variation record to assist in finding the actual document.

Physical parts can be represented with the database for simplifying BOM construction and maintenance, as well as facilitating dispositioning instructions on engineering change notices. Such representation consists of costs, various inventory flags, usage quantities, units of measure, and a note field (for reference designators).

Using the Data Manager, any number of electronic files can be associated with a particular document record. These files are directly managed by the system, and may be from any source that creates files that are compatible with the DOS/Windows environment.
