System Overview

Acseni is a fully relational database with built-in referential integrity enforcement. Conceptually, data resides on the server in 3 blocks:

• database tables for document data, environment attributes, and workflow definitions;
• library meta-data for managing library files; and
• library directories for storing system-managed files.

The application user interface and data management execute on the client side. In addition, the workstation maintains user preferences, local-language text strings, and certain other information that increases performance and reduces network traffic. Finally, the user workspace is typically the source for files checked into, and the destination for files checked out of, the central library.
